Only the Authentic will Endure
The Angeles family had been harvesting maguey and making artisanal mezcal distilled in clay pots since 1898 in rented palenques. In 1978, the family built their own palenque (small distillery) and Mezcal de Los Angeles SC de RL, was formalized as the family business and in 2002 Mezcal Real Minero was born. Building their own palenque has allowed the family to grow their business and thrive. Under the leadership of Graciela Angeles, Don Lorenzo’s daughter, their flagship palenque has flourished, resulting in a impeccable, authentic jewel that you must see for yourself.

Like many maestros, Don Lorenzo recalls being a young boy of 8 or 9 years when he first began taking lunch to the palenque where his father and grandfather were distilling. They often would put him to work cleaning up around the palenque and caring for the young agaves that would later be planted he and his family. As Lorenzo got older his chores also included carrying and cutting maguey (ma’guey), and over time his grandfather and father began delegating more and more responsibilities to him; which ultimately led to his first production. Fifty-eight years later, he is producing mezcals of unrivaled quality that pay testament to his close attention to quality, artistry and detail.
The name Real Minero pays homage to our village’s rich mining history. During the Spanish Colonial period mining this community was initially known as Real de Minas or Royal Mines. With Christianization of Mexico, many villages took on the names of different Saints, which over time resulted in our village being called Santa Catarina Minas.
Everyone at Real Minero understands that in the competitive global world of mezcal, speed does not ensure success. Instead, success comes from determination and the life-long pursuit of perfection. The Angeles Carreño family never compromises on quality nor strays from the genuine values passed from generation to generation. Every dram in every bottle is a reflection of those values.
